Billboard Advertising-5 Tips
Billboard advertising is a known way to get your public aware of your business or whatever it is that’s being advertised. It is effective, far reaching and one of the preferred modes of advertising. Billboard advertising is not as easy as it seems, it involves a lot more than just placing a billboard randomly for persons to see. Below are five tips to consider when you think about advertising with billboards.
1. Your Target Market and Budget – You must first choose your target market, or the type people you want your ads to appeal to. This can be done by performing a preliminary survey of sorts to get a feel of what people want. The amount of money you intend to spend on your advertising campaign is also necessary, as, in advertising, the budget is a deciding factor, and can be the difference in whether you soar or sink. Each type of media has a different price. This can be a monthly, quarterly, Bi-annual, annual, or one time billing.
2. Material and Type of Media – The material you choose can also be a deciding factor in advertising with billboards. Billboards come in panels or wraps, there are also mechanical, bicycle, mobile and three dimensional billboards or tri-media or prism as they are sometimes called. All of these serve the same purpose, with the only exception being the size and the price.
3. Location – Where you choose to put the billboard can determine if it’s ignored or seen. Billboards are designed to be a visual tool in outdoor media advertising and should be placed in a prime location to add to the visibility of the ads being displayed. Although they can be placed anywhere in which people are able to see it, a billboard is oftentimes placed on highways, as people driving on the highway are able to get a good look at it in passing. Having a billboard in a clustered location or one that is not easily seen by the public can seriously defeat the purpose it was intended for.
4. Slogan – The words chosen for your slogan or for the advertising campaign should be impactful, catchy and creative words which will be easily remembered by passers-by. They should also be suitable for your intended target market. The wordings used in an advertising campaign are what makes or breaks the campaign, and should be well thought out. It should reflect the company, product or services in a minimal amount of words, or phrase.
5. Upkeep – The upkeep of the billboards should be closely monitored, not only by you the customer, but also by the company, whose job it is to do so. In the event that the company is not aware of the state of your billboard, and it has badly deteriorated, then it is your responsibility to use whatever means, whether photo or any other means necessary to get it to the attention of the company. This is done so that their billing department can refund you for the time you were off air, or your billboard was not visible.
