Bebo
When it comes to social networking, there are several platforms that you can choose from. They are basically all the same with a few minor differences. One such social networking site is Bebo. In 2005, Michael and Xochi Birch launched the site to create an online atmosphere that was similar to that of another popular site.
As is the case with similar sites, when a user has signed up, they can interact with others and post photos, blogs, videos and their favorite music. They are given a profile that enables them to personalize it to their preferences. Exchanging messages, greetings and commenting on their friends’ pages is also possible with an account at Bebo.
The name was derived from an acronym which means “Blog Early, Blog Often” which is essentially, what bloggers do on a daily basis when they are online. Because of the frequency at which people interact online nowadays, it was easy for the concept of a social network such as this to catch on easily.
The Bebo members use their profiles to see what their friends and relatives are up to on a daily basis, send messages, photos and other files. They have the option to make their profiles public or private, depending on their preferences. There are other gadgets that can also be added to the profiles. Upon joining, the profile is initially made private; having a private setting can allow users to limit the amount of people who view and interact on their profile. The profile can be made public afterwards by changing it in the settings.
The inclusion of polls and quizzes are also available on the profile, the polls offer members the option to comment or vote on each post that is made. The limit to the amount of photos that each album can hold is set at 96. With the help of what is called a “motion box” users can add videos from YouTube or other video content sites that are capable of providing such content.
Bebo has a life stream which enables viewers to view whatever changes are made to a user’s profile. Their profile on some other networks can also be linked to their Bebo profile for easy access. With other networks, the comments that are posted appear on other users’ profiles as an update; users are able to control the posts that appear on other people’s profile when they post.
Bebo can be accessed from your mobile device; the features that are available on the mobile site were designed to match that of the original site. With the release of their free application to the APP Store in 2009, users can now access Bebo on Iphones and their IPod Touches.
In 2011, a new design was launched on Bebo and in April they added a brand new system for notifications. The features are constantly being updated and upgraded, so chances are, if you are unable to access a certain feature on Bebo, you can send a suggestion in the feedback and it just might be added in the near future.
