Is Crack Cocaine really a White Collar Drug?

Crack cocaine is a variation of cocaine which is mixed with baking soda and water then heated to form rocks. After the mixing, heating and cooling, it is then used for smoking. Crack cocaine is classified as one of, if not the most illicit and addictive drug which is used in today’s society. The use of crack cocaine in Calgary is increasing at an unbelievable rate. This drug is used both by the usual lower class victims and those deemed by society to be “white collar”. It is used by millionaires, who, for some reason, have tried everything and wants a change from the “usual”. It is used by accountants, models, businesspeople, doctors, dentists, and the list goes on. Many of the statistics shared on the use of crack cocaine, from treatment centers situated across Canada. Treatment centers such as: Renfrew Recovery Center, “The Orchard” located in British Colombia, Cedars located at Cobble Hill, Serenity House Drug and Treatment Centre in Calgary and Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission. At The Renfrew Recovery Center, the use of crack cocaine in patients has increased significantly over the past few years. Currently at the facility, records indicate that alcohol is the only addictive substance that has more users than crack cocaine. The Orchard, which is a private treatment center, has recorded a whopping 30% of its patients as Albertans. They are seeing more users of crack cocaine now than before. At the Cedars on Cobble Hill, the statistics are much the same. There is an influx of white collar addicts at the facility and they range in ages from teens up to 50 years old. Neal Berger, who is the executive director of the facility, says that they get a lot of Albertans who stand to lose a lot. The Serenity House Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center, in Calgary, has also seen a major increase in their rehab center. Crack cocaine use is a scourge on society and not an addiction which is easy to quit. The drug pushers and persons employed by them, is the main breeding ground for this destructive and addictive drug being distributed, among those of the upper echelon of society. Crack cocaine is a drug which easily leaves the system and cannot be detected by drug testing. Marijuana and alcohol are no longer the substance of choice, as these are easily detected during a test. Many users of crack cocaine easily underestimate the effects of this drug. Comprehensive policies have been developed by both the gas and oil companies in Alberta with an aim to educate and formulate policies for their employees. Statistics show also, that loss in productivity, due to drug addiction is currently at a whopping 20 billion/year. Crack cocaine and cocaine are not the same and do not have the same effects. The effects of crack cocaine is far more devastating, people have lost homes, families, jobs and even lives due to crack cocaine addiction.
